Name: Urban Area Delineation

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: The U.S. Census Bureau delineates urban areas as densely settled cores of census blocks to distinguish built-up landscapes from rural territories. Following the 2020 Census, the bureau updated its classification criteria to emphasize housing unit density rather than population density, while dropping the distinction between "Urbanized Areas" and "Urban Clusters". To qualify as an urban area, a territory must encompass a minimum population of at least 5,000 people, and at least 2,000 housing units.
